Secondary butyl phenyl nitroxide and isopentyl phenyl nitroxide radicals were synthesized and studied by ESR spectroscopy in DMF-ethanol, DMF-water and ethanol-water solvent mixtures. The variation of the nitrogen hf constant and g values were interpreted by rapid interconversion between three solvent-radical (SR) complexes, among which the mixed RS1S2 adduct was found more stable than the RS12 and RS22 adducts. The complex forming abilities vary in the following order; water > ethanol > DMF. |
