A brief evaluation of the behavior of a non-classical DC-excited reluctance synchronous machine parameters operating as a synchronous condenser is presented in this paper. The evaluation involves fault analysis of the machine under 3-phase short-circuit using the proposed accurate transient simulation methods. The transient current and reactance parameters are calculated under absorbing and generating reactive power operating conditions of the synchronous condenser. These parameters are compared under normal and fault conditions in which observations are used to explain how the machine provides grid strength under fault conditions. |
