Popis: The Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom (MOD(UK)), is well aware of the increasing demand for public accountability, and the need to explain its activities to interested parties (stakeholders). Comparison is required between hazardous activities performed by MOD(UK), and more familiar hazards elsewhere. Procedures are reasonably well developed for the estimation of risks to an individual, both for the workforce and members of the general public, but we are less content with arrangements for estimating and managing risks to exposed groups of people. This paper is intended to publish some recent work by MOD (UK) on societal risk from its explosives storage activities, and to comment on the application of the results to risk management.
