Popis: | A method to forecast when damage by Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel) will first appear each spring was tested in Illinois during 1980 and 1981. The method uses pheromone trap catch data to initiate computer simulations, using a black cutworm phenology model (event simulator) and current temperature data from standard weather stations. The projections consistently fell within 4 days of detected first damage in all regions of Illinois where damage was prevalent and where the crop had emerged. Recommendations for use of the forecasting procedure to schedule pest scouting activities are outlined. |
