Popis: | In this paper we investigate the relationship between relative poverty and/or inequality on the one hand and the intensity of the recent global economic crisis, as well as the current economic position of European Union countries on the other. Using data from the 27 E.U. member states we try to establish a link of prevailing inequality/poverty inside each country and economic distress during and after the crisis. The statistical analysis supports the idea that there is a strong positive relationship between higher inequality/poverty at the national level and the size of the economic crisis impact. Equivalently, we could state that the current economic ranking of the individual E.U. countries is strongly correlated with the level of poverty and/or inequality. |
