This paper presents a novel approach for a numeric algorithm which is used for flight path generation taking into account safety aspects and aircraft limits. The algorithm is a core element of a new tool used in the Red Bull Air Race World Series, which is a spectacular aerobatic sporting event and currently implemented to comparable to the Formula 1 grand prix, for race track planning and race-site location checks. The purpose of this algorithm is to generate the shortest flight path between two waypoints under consideration of aircraft limits and flight path constraints. The mathematical description of this flight path, which is 5 th order polynomial spline, is then used to compute flight path commands for a kinematic simulation model. |
