Popis: | Snowboarding has been on the increase, and with this increase has come increased injuries. Many of these injuries have occurred in participants who were not wearing snowboarding helmets. One reason for the lack of wear may be that the available helmets do not meet the needs of snowboarders. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to identify the design characteristics and regulatory requirements that could positively impact the use of snowboarding helmets. Utilising an adaptation of the functional, expressive and aesthetic consumer needs model, an online instrument was distributed to 391 snowboarders. Data were analysed using multiple mean comparisons to assess design characteristics and regulatory needs for the ideal helmet. The results showed that improvements needed to be made in functional, expressive, aesthetic and regulatory (FEAR) areas.
