| Popis: | The thickness of the PAS-positive basement membrane in vessels of the subpapillary plexus has been studied by the AA. in biopsies of normal skin of 24 young diabetics, 12 normal children of diabetic mothers and 15 control volunteers, who had no history of family diabetes or metabolic disorders. A marked thickening of the perivascular membrane was demonstrated in 22 cases of juvenile diabetics, in 4 normal children of diabetic mothers and in one of the controls. It is concluded that this method of histologic investigation is important although not infallible for the detection of diabetes or prediabetes. |
