IR data concerning CO adsorption at 77 K have been used to characterize the various hydroxys of some zeolites in protonic form: ZSM5, TON, MOR (as such and dealuminated), dealuminated MAZ. CO-complexing occurs via the C end and shows features typical of H-bonding: Δ v (CO) is proportional to (Δ v (OH)) ½ . Δ v (OH) is a good measure of the acidity of the hydroxyls and allows the rationalization of the stretching frequencies of the hydroxyls of the zeolites studied in terms of the intrinsic acidity of the former and the internal electric field of the latter. |
