Popis: | Aim: To describe the feelings of adolescents living with HIV/aids. Method: a descriptive research study using a qualitative approach. Data were collected in three hospitals located in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, between June 2011 and January 2012. Ten HIV-positive adolescents were interviewed using an audio recorder. Thematic analysis was used interpret interviews. Results: HIV imposes restrictions on daily activities due to treatment regimes and prejudice. Hopelessness, guilt, fear, denial and acceptance were common feelings. Most of the adolescents received family support but did not tell other about their condition. The treatment improved their quality of life but generated difficulties at work. Discussion: Prejudice causes feelings of social exclusion and has consequences for physical and mental health. Conclusion: Understanding the feelings adolescents of living with HIV may contribute improving their care by focusing on quality of life. |
