The thermal neutron capture cross-section and resonance capture integral of 125I

Popis: The thermal neutron capture cross-section of 125 I, its resonance capture integral (from 0·5 eV to ∞) and its effective capture cross-section in a reflector position of the Ispra I reactor have been found to be 894 ± 90 barns, 13730 ± 2000 barns and 991 ± 100 barns respectively. These values have been determined by irradiating targets of 125 I and measuring the activity of 126 I produced by the ( n , γ) reaction. The value of the resonance integral is presumably the highest ever determined for ( n , γ) reactions. Irradiations made with different thicknesses of cadmium cover show the absence of a major resonance in the region of the cadmium cutoff.
