Popis: | Aim To review the current status of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) as a standalone procedure and its comparison with Laparoscopic roux en Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) for morbid obesity. Background LSG is a commonly performed procedure. It is technically simple to teach and easy to learn. LRYGB on the other hand is a complex operation. LRYGB is thought to be more effective than LSG. An extensive literature review of the two procedures was done to determine whether LSG could be a preferred operation of choice given its technical simplicity with comparable efficacy and safety. Methods We reviewed articles, randomized control trials, systematic reviews and meta analysis in Google Scholar (2016–2017) comparing LSG with LRYGB .The comparison was made for following preoperative features like body mass index(BMI), number of patients, operative parameters like operative time and postoperative results like complications, weight loss and co morbidity resolutions and various other factors. Conclusions Our results suggest that LSG has the potential to be an independent primary bariatric procedure qualifying it as a standalone "gold standard". |
