Popis:	The dimethylamine-mediated ring-opening of a series of N,N-dimethyl-4-oxo-4H-chromene-2-carboxamides to the corresponding (E)-2-(N,N-dimethylamino)-3-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)acrylamides has been monitored by UV spectroscopy, and a mechanistic sequence which accommodates the observed third-order kinetics is presented.
