Popis: | Pseudohypoparathyroidism is described in a forty-two year old white man. The effects of prolonged calcium infusion, short-term and long-term administration of purified bovine parathyroid hormone and treatment with vitamin D were evaluated. Studies of bone mineral metabolism with 47 Ca, vitamin D metabolism with tritiated vitamin D and hydroxyproline excretion were performed. The collected data support the pathophysiologic concept of relative end-organ refractoriness to the action of parathyroid hormone as the basic mechanism. In this patient a transition was noted, not previously described, from hypocalcemia to eucalcemia, maintained over a period of more than six years, to hypocalcemia. |
