Popis: The conclusion summarizes the work’s main findings and uses insights from the preceding chapters to shed light on the decisions in Russia and Ukraine to end their experimentation with PR-only rules. Rather than trying to explain the reintroduction of mixed-member electoral systems per se, this chapter asserts that moving away from closed-list PR-only rules makes sense given their political consequences in Russia and Ukraine. Finally, since politicians in Russia and Ukraine once again adopted similar electoral systems, despite substantial differences in competition levels and party development, the conclusion ends by emphasizing the value of unpacking the institutional components of contemporary authoritarian regimes and by calling for future research to compare institutional changes across regime types as a way to better understand when, why, and to what extent similar institutions operate differently in diverse political settings.
