Popis: The oxygen requirements of cardiac muscle are high and continuous, due largely to the energy expended during cycling of contractile proteins. Any decrease in oxygen flow to the cardiac myocytes places these cells at risk for loss of function or possibly infarction dependent upon the duration of oxygen deprivation. It is well recognized therefore that a non-invasive method for evaluating the oxygenation state of the heart would be a valuable tool for both the research and the clinical setting.
