Popis: | Transient electrochemistry techniques (cyclic and square wave voltammetry) were applied to studying the kinetics of reaction of oxygen with solutions of samarium chloride in molten alkali chlorides. The experiments were performed in LiCl–KCl and NaCl–KCl–CsCl eutectic mixtures at 550–750 oC and in NaCl–KCl equimolar mixture 750 oC. The course of the reactions was followed by recording voltammograms at the certain time intervals during bubbling excess oxygen through the melt. Treating samarium containing melts with oxygen resulted in decreasing concentration of samarium ions in the electrolyte. The reaction had first-order kinetics in respect to samarium chloride. Reaction rate constants and activation energy of the reaction were determined. |
