Popis:	Summary An epidemiological study was conducted on 93 adult patients admitted for tetanus in the Yaounde Central Hospital from 1986 to 1990. The results showed that hospital incidence of tetanus was 15/1 000, mean annual incidence in general population was 17 cases per 1 000 000 population. The mean age of patients was 37 years. Tetanus occurred more frequently in males than in females and the mortality rate, 27.9 % was closely related to the period of incubation and the severity of clinical presentation on admission. Only the generalisation of immunization against tetanus in adolescents and adults who missed immunization in their childhood will lead to a great reduction in the incidence of tetanus in our community.
