Popis: Thirty-eight samples collected from the southern North Island west coast, between Paekakariki and Otaki (i.e. Kapiti coast) were analysed by mechanical sieving to determine if chronologically distinct dunes exhibited characteristic sedimentary parameters. Slight differences do appear to occur but the contrasts are of insufficient magnitude to be used alone as a diagnostic feature. The study indicates a strong environmental uniformity has been in existence for over 6000 years notwithstanding large changes in the quantity of sediments available for dune building and the input of volcanic material.
