The lining of the gastro-intestinal tract is protected by a visco-elastic mucus layer. To understand the functions of this layer its components must be studied. We have prepared mucin molecules from rat small intestine using a procedure that avoids proteolysis, reduction of disulphide bonds and high shear. |
