This paper presents a wideband antenna, called the BOR-CROSS, composed of a conducting body of revolution (BOR) and a cross-shaped conducting plate. The plate is placed concentrically on top of the BOR and is in contact with its top surface. The antenna is backed by a conducting plate (ground plane). The BOR-CROSS is used to realize a low-profile antenna that operates over a frequency range of 470 MHz to 2170 MHz. The antenna height above the ground plane is chosen to be small: H = 4.5 cm (= 0.07 wavelength at 470 MHz). The analysis of the BOR-CROSS antenna is performed using the finite-difference time-domain method. |
