Popis: | SummaryThe use of inexpensive disposable sampling devices allows endometrial tissue to be obtained in the surgery or outpatient clinic in over 90 per cent of women. The technique is simple, free from complications and avoids the need for the admission and anaesthesia when dilatation and curettage is performed. In a prospective study over one year in the outpatient clinics of one consultant in the Gloucester Health District, 303 women were seen who required endometrial biopsy. Ninety-one per cent had a successful outpatient procedure using a Z-sampler. Nine per cent required admission for dilatation and curettage. All but one of the women preferred the outpatient procedure to admission. The study identified true savings of almost £1500 and resource savings to the value of almost £28000 were made available for other purposes. |
