Popis: | The motor function of the uterus of intact and pregnant rabbits was investigated in vitro during inhibition of the key enzymes of the pentose phosphate cycle (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase) and of the Embden-Meierhof-Krebs cycle (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, enolase, and succinate dehydrogenase). Under these conditions regular changes took place in the contractile function of the uterine cornua. During pregnancy activation of the enzymes responsible for direct oxidation of glucose in the pentose phosphate cycle was observed in the smooth-muscle cells of the myometrium, and this could be a factor maintaining pregnancy. |
