Popis: Carbon blacks age more in air than in a vacuum, and mostly within the first three months of exposure. During the aging process, certain changes occur in the adsorption characteristics of the blacks, such changes being brought about by oxidation, and by rearrangement of the functional groups at the surface. The disappearance of highly active adsorption centers at the surface of the blacks leads to a reduction of the tensile strength, the stress at 300% elongation, and the wear resistance of the vulcanized rubbers into which such blacks are incorporated. There is also a change in the relaxation characteristics of the rubbers.
