Intensive husbandry systems have made it necessary to assess the environmental requirements of animals in order to minimize stress. Stressful stimuli from the environment are mediated through endocrinological alterations. These alterations may have effect on the immune system and energy metabolism, being important for animal health and productivity. It is described which endocrinological effects may occur and how they affect components of the immune system and energy metabolism. Data from literature that combine measurements of energy metabolism during the induction of an immune response are given. |
