Popis: | A multi-square slot surface coil was developed for rodent MRI at 11.7 T. The coil prototype was 20 mm in diameter with six square slots. Electromagnetic simulations of the slotted and circular coils were conducted to evaluate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and absorption rate (SAR). Experimental SNR results were also calculated and compared, and the comparison showed good agreement between experimental and numerical data. The slotted coil produces lower predicted SAR for points near the coil plane when compared to the SAR numerical values for the circular coil. The performance of prototype, measured via the Q factor, was $$Q_l 6.5 = Q_u$$ , and its noise figure was 1.6. A commercial circular coil was used to acquire phantom images for comparison purposes. The slotted surface coil showed comparable performance with a commercial circular coil in UHF MRI applications. These experimental and numerical results demonstrate the feasibility of the slotted coil design at 11.7 T. |
