A novel, simple and cost-effective method has been developed for tuning dye lasers used in laser-excited atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The method uses two common laboratory items-a pierced mirror and a commercial electrodeless discharge lamp (EDL). In contrast to the existing procedure using flame, there is no nebulizer-burner, hood, gas tanks, nor burner control unit involved. The EDL lamp method also facilitates the simultaneous monitoring of reference and analyte peaks. It allows the monitoring of laser stability during experiments. A practical minimum pulse energy required for tuning and LEAFS studies was found to be 200 nJ. |
