Popis: Breast cancer has been the most common cancer in the UK since 1997, and now accounts for 31% of all new cancer cases in females (Cancer Research UK, 2012). To provide seamless care for the patients seen in the breast clinic at University College London Hospital, the author has become a nurse prescriber as part of her role as an advanced nurse practitioner. This allows autonomous practice in cancer follow-up clinics, where she can initiate therapy agreed by the multidisciplinary team and help the women to have a greater understanding of their treatment and the drug being prescribed. A thorough knowledge of the disease process and the pharmacology of the medications in common use is essential to be able to acheive safe and excellent practice.
