Popis: | The measurement system in the instrumentation for a nuclear physics experiment is often connected to a computer by a direct-memory-access channel. The direct-memory-access is in time limited to the boundaries between the computer micro-programs. This has an unfavourable influence on the dead-time of the measurement system. Another approach is the use of a buffer memory between the analog-to-digital converter and the computer. A buffer of first-in-first-out type gives a data flow with feedback effects only when the buffer becomes full. The dead-time distributions for both the approaches have been measured during an experiment with the pulsed-neutron-source method, which from the instrumental point of view is equivalent to a time-of-flight measurement. |
