Popis: AT ST. STEPHEN, Berkeley County, South Carolina, Thanetian sediments yielded 1 3 taxa of sharks and rays. Since this fauna was not bulk sampled, many additional small taxa may have been overlooked. Therefore, adequate comparison of this fauna with others from other parts of the world, which were bulk sampled, cannot be made. The taxa present at St. Stephen suggest that this area was covered by a shallow tropical sea. For several of these taxa, juvenile teeth are present, which may indicate that during the Paleocene, the St. Stephen area was a feeding area for juveniles. Striatolamia is synonymized with Carcharias.
