Popis: SARLUX has developed a new Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plant designed to produce, in an environmentally friendly manner, electric power (about 570 MWe gross power), steam, and hydrogen (60,000 Nm3/h), using high-sulfur refinery residues (vacuum visbroken residue (VVR), vacuum residue and asphalt) as feedstock. The plant is located inside the Saras refinery in Sarroch, Sardinia island (Italy). The plant, mechanically completed in 1999 and in commercial operation since the beginning of 2001, is achieving its 15th year of operation. This chapter will focus mainly on the following aspects: ● IGCC integration with the refinery: benefits and synergism; ● IGCC technical description and multiple train configuration; ● Environmental impact; ● Construction, commissioning, and startup issues; and ● IGCC availability and commercial operation.
