When receptacles of the second and the third female flowers on the main stem of a cucumber plant had been sprayed with an aqueous solution of 2 ppm thidiazuron (TDZ) or 2 ppm TDZ÷100 ppm GA3, the mean fresh weight of the fruit formed from the sprayed female flowers increased by 41.1% or 74.3% and by 32.4% or 68.9% in 1989 and 1990 respectively. Spraying the receptacles of female flowers with such a solution once markedly increased the fruit yield of the first harvest and did not reduce the total fruit yield. |
