Popis: In this paper we have reviewed a variety of analytical tools that may be useful to the mental health administrator in assessing the interorganizational environment and in identifying potentially useful linkages between his or her organization and others. Whether or not one chooses to use these specific tools or other analytical methods in the literature (Baker and O'Brien 1971; O'Brien and Bushnell 1980), they can sensitize the administrator to the resources and perils in an agency's external environment, an awareness that becomes increasingly important during prolonged periods of resource scarcity such as we have recently entered. Many agencies will not survive the coming decade. Planning for the survival of one's mission must depend not only on internal resources but on external supports as well. A long-range perspective and models for interorganizational linkages can assist with such external planning.
