Popis: An experiment was initiated in the year 1985 to study the long term effect of organic manures along with fertilizers. For this study, seven different treatments were imposed on a sandy loam soil, Typic Haplustepts under pearl millet-wheat cropping sequence. The present study evaluated the combined effect of organic manures and fertilizers on wheat yield, uptake of major nutrients and soil organic carbon content. The application of organic manures along with fertilizers increased the yield and nutrient uptake by wheat crop as well as soil organic carbon content. Amongst the organic manures used along with the fertilizers, FYM was found to give significantly higher values with the highest value of 58.1 q ha−1 for grain yield, 65.2 q ha−1 for straw yield, 132 kg ha−1 for total N uptake, 29 kg ha−1 for total P uptake, 85 kg ha−1 for total K uptake and 5.0 g kg−1 for soil organic carbon Next to FYM amended treatment, the higher values were recorded for green manure amended treatment. The results indicated that long term application of organic manures along with fertilizers is important for improving productivity on long term basis as well as the response to residual fertility from the previous application.
