Popis: In 1975 Ursing and Kamme (1) reported in an uncontrolled study, that metronidazole [M] had a therapeutic effect on Crohn’s disease. In two small studies this finding has both been disputed (2) and confirmed (3). As the need for better medical treatment of this disease is great a multicenter trial was set up and named: Cooperative Crohn’s Disease Study in Sweden [CCDSS]. The aim of the study was to investigate the clinical efficiency of treatment with metronidazole in active Crohn’s disease in comparison to treatment with sulfasalazine [S], that is to test the null hypothesis that metronidazole is not more effective than sulfasalazine.
