We investigate whether formal property rights introduced in Benin through a land titling reform alleviate individuals’ internal constraints. We follow previous literature by measuring internal constraints as a set of different related concepts, namely: aspirations, pathways, locus of control and self-efficacy. We hypothesize higher levels of aspirations, pathways, locus of control, self-efficacy among individuals in Beninese villages where formal property rights have been formalized than in control villages without formal property rights. |
