Summary Information about rock properties can be inferred from the seismic amplitude using inversion techniques. With the progress in seismic data acquisition and processing, a wide variety of datasets (pre stack, azimuthal, multicomponent PP/PS or time lapse for example) are now available for inversion rather than a single seismic cube. Following the acquisition and processing of Vietnam's first 3D–4C OBC in the Cuu Long Basin, a PP/PS simultaneous stochastic inversion was performed with the aim of predicting lithology and fluid distribution in the Oligocene and Miocene clastic sequences. The results were achieved due to detailed planning of field works, high quality processing of 4-component seismic data, and structural and dynamic interpretation of geoscience data. The main result of the work was the successful drilling of a well in 2018 with the discovery of new deposits in the sedimentary rocks. This paper describes the various steps from acquisition to interpretation that were performed on the PP/PS dataset. Above all, this paper shows the benefit of having a multi-discipline team working together at all stages: field, processing, interpretation, inversion and drilling to achieve the study objectives. |
