The reasons for a possible association between multiple sclerosis and avitaminosis B12 neuropathy are stated. An assessment of plasma clearance and urinary excretion of58Co vitamin B12 in 11 eases of multiple sclerosis, 5 cases of avitaminosis B12, 2 cases of chronic myeloid leukaemia, and 5 normal subjects is described. The results in the different disease groups are compared. Explanations for the results obtained are suggested, and it is concluded that vitamin B12 metabolism in multiple sclerosis is normal. |
