In our hospital we have experienced 11 cases of postoperative acute myocardial infarction (post operative AMI) the past 5 years. The early onset group, which showed AMI within 48 hours after operation, was compared with the late onset group, which showed AMI over 48 hours after operation, in terms of interval to onset, risk factors and so on. As a result we concluded the following: 1) The factors of age, sex, method of anesthesia and total volume of blood transfusion did not greatly affect the onset of postoperative AMI. 2) The early onset group had a better prognosis than the late onset group. 3) The late onset group, which had a poor prognosis, consisted of many cases of malignancy and had a longer operation time than the early onset group. 4) If the patients of postoperative AMI included respiratory problems, the mortality rate was relatively high. |
