We present a cognitive architecture based on the network mathematical tool to describe the neurally distributed meanings of words. This network architecture builds on recent empirical findings that the meanings of words are distributed and emerge from a dynamic interaction between several neural elements. The network consists of set of nodes representing words and edges representing features. The specificity of this network lies particularly on its unique architecture consisting of cliques that are semantically differentiated, unlike those obtained from a classical method of clique percolation in graph theory. Each word is distributed in different cliques and serves as a bridge to connect different semantic cliques. Our cognitive architecture provides a prominent way to study the development, the growth and the breakdown of the semantic network in children, adults and people with brain disorders, respectively. |
