Popis: Inverter-Fed asynchronous machines are widely used in high power electric vehicles, such as electric trains and trolleybuses. The use of vector control in those public transportation systems has gained popularity due to its advantages in terms of energy conversion, reliability and quality of transportation. In addition, recent advances in operation and control of regenerative braking schemes give the opportunity to enhance public transportation through energy saving in a sustainable manner; the aim of this paper is to present initial estimations regarding the sustainability of applying a regenerative braking scheme in case of Athens trolleybuses (owned by OSY S.A.).
