Fulminant meningococcemia is a life-threatening disease with acute onset, septic shock, and progressive hemorrhagic necrosis of the skin [1]. Mortality rate is highest in patientswith severe septic shock and the clinical syndrome of purpura fulminans [2, 3]. The coagulopathy of meningococcal disease involves a complex dysregulation of procoagulant, anti-coagulant, and fibrinolytic proteins. The strong activation of coagulation results in depletion of many hemostatic proteins, particularly protein C (PC) [4]. |
