The importance of science, technology and innovation (ST&I) and their infl uence on the processes of transformation of contemporary societies are undeniable. The production of ST&I has a signifi cant impact on several social dimensions, such as economics, politics community, culture and values. And, based on this premise, the need emerges for and is consolidated in the construction of indicators geared to scientifi c and technological production that measure, in some way, the impact of this production. Examples would be indicators of technological innovation, of scientifi c production, of human and fi nancial resources for research and, more recently, indicators of the public perception of science-which examine in what way and to what extent ST&I topics are part of people’s daily lives. |
