Popis: | This work cross-validated the Cognitive Capacity Screening Examination (CCSE) with psychiatric geriatric patients. The CCSE is a 30 item mental status questionnaire originally developed to locate possible organic mental syndromes among medical patients. Eighty-seven (87) patients, mean age = 74.6, were tested after admission to psychiatric geriatric wards. CCSE scores were compared for patients who had been independently classified into functional and organic pathology groups. The functional group had a mean CCSE score of 16.87, while the organic group had a mean CCSE score of 7.15. This difference is significant at the .01 level. Along with evidence of the CCSE's reliability and validity, these findings are deemed to show the utility of the CCSE for both diagnostic and research purposes with psychiatric-geriatric populations. |
