Popis: To obtain a cast of better quality through vertical centrifugal casting, it is essential to optimize the process parameters like rotational speed, volume fraction, aspect ratio etc. In the present investigation casts of eutectic, hypoeutectic and hyper eutectic Al-Si alloys were obtained with mould wall thickness 5mm, 7mm and 9mm at rotational speed of 500 rpm. Microstructure of specimens was examined. Hardness and Specific Wear Rate (SWR) were evaluated. Vertical centrifugal cast alloys having higher silicon content indicated higher hardness and had a finer grain size. However, hardness of casts with higher wall thickness was found greater. While, Specific Wear Rate of Al-5% Si alloy cast specimens was found higher than those of other alloy compositions obtained at 500 rpm.To obtain a cast of better quality through vertical centrifugal casting, it is essential to optimize the process parameters like rotational speed, volume fraction, aspect ratio etc. In the present investigation casts of eutectic, hypoeutectic and hyper eutectic Al-Si alloys were obtained with mould wall thickness 5mm, 7mm and 9mm at rotational speed of 500 rpm.
