Popis: Reti nopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vasoproliferati ve reti nal disorder in premature infants that can lead to blindness and the incidence is increasing with increased survival of infants born at very early gestati onal age and low birth weight. Majority of common diseases are complex and multi factorial resulti ng from the interplay of geneti c components and environmental factors. As no single gene or geneti c variant on its own can cause the disease pathology, complexiti es associated with common diseases present unique challenges for management and therapy. Genome wide associati on and resequencing projects together with gene environment interacti on studies are expected to further defi ne the causal relati onships that connect geneti c variants to ROP pathogenesis and should assist in bett er design of preventi on and interventi on. This review summarizes the recent literature on ROP with a special focus to recognize the geneti c basis of the disease. Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Swati Shukla, Arpna Srivastava, Jasbir Kaur
