Popis: A group of 59 patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria, 43 with evidence of Helicobacter pylori infection, were followed for at least 6 months to estimate the effect of H. pylori eradication therapy on urticaria symptoms. Of the 43 patients with H. pylori infection, 32 were successfully treated for the infection and 78% of these patients became free of urticaria or their urticaria symptoms were alleviated, while the corresponding rate among 11 patients with persistent H. pylori gastritis was only 27%. The rate of spontaneous cure or improvement of urticaria among the 16 patients with no evidence of H. pylori gastritis was 44%. The difference in clinical improvement of urticaria between the groups was statistically significant (P < 0.003). We therefore conclude that every patient with chronic urticaria ought to be examined for the presence of H. pylori and, in positive cases, eradication therapy should be...
