Popis: This bibliographical survey introduces briefly the most important areas of recent Western scholarship on the Qur’an and lists relevant publications. Given that during the last three decades a wealth of scholarship on a diverse range of Qur’anic issues has been published, the present survey is limited to English-language academic publications. Areas of research include debates about the origins of Islam and the historical environment in which the Qur’an was composed, the relationship between the Bible and the Qur’an, material evidence and Qur’anic manuscripts, literary aspects of the Qur’an, hermeneutic traditions, including commentaries on the Qur’an, religious topics in the Qur’an, the modern Muslim reception of the text, as well as the significance of the Qur’an in Western perceptions of and attitudes to Islam.
