Popis:	The NCTM's Standards documents (1989, 1991) encourage teachers to give students problems drawn from real-world contexts. This article demonstrates the mathematical nature of a marine environment-pollution problem. Examples discussed could be used to motivate students in a beginning-or intermediate-algebra classroom.
