Unlike the earlier Handbook chapters, this Appendix presents a glossary of 92 important terms and concepts for the reader to understand, with 85 of them defined. Nearly, all the terms and concepts included have been defined earlier in A Dictionary of Nonprofit Terms and Concepts of 1,767 terms and concepts (1212 defined; 555 cross-references), written by Smith, Stebbins, and Dover (2006). But the definitions of some of these have been updated. A few concepts have been added, not present in that version of the Dictionary, such as voluntaristics. For definitions of concepts and terms not included here, the interested reader should consult the Dictionary noted. Terms defined there have an asterisk as an initial superscript.
